    Blessed Be Your Name the Songs of Matt Redman, Vol. 1

    Someone once said, “The worst enemy of marriage is just plain boredom ...

    It is so subtle, so unobtrusive.  It doesn’t wave any red flags.  It’s quiet.  It slowly but surely devours its victim!

    The scenario is simple.  We begin to drift apart.  Careers, children, hobbies, home, and making money get in the way.  These important matters begin to take up our time.  We get too busy for one another.  Though it appears all is well, it is deceiving.  There is no fighting, no real emotional pain of any sort.  Everything must be well.  After all, the sign on the porch reads, “Home Sweet Home.”  We grow accustomed to the routine things until one day we say, “But we’re not happy!”

    The Bible challenges us in Ecclesiastes 9:9 to “Enjoy life with your wife.”   Somehow we’ve misplaced this enjoyment God intended for our marriage with enduring and that becomes routine which lead to boredom.

    If your life becomes predictable, your marriage becomes predictable – predictability kills.

    There are many things an individual can do to change a marriage of routine into a marriage that is full of passion and vitality.

    Lady Chesterfield once said, “My child, if you finally decide to let a man kiss you, put your whole heart into it.  No man likes to kiss a rock.”  Neither men nor women like to kiss rocks!  Kissing ... communicating ... living ... if any of these things have become routine, begin changing today!  Begin kissing like you mean it!  Be more than in love!  Behave in love!  Kill the routine before it starts killing you and your marriage!

  • MORNING PRAYER

    O God, early in the morning I cry to you.
    Help me to pray
    And to concentrate my thoughts on you:
    I cannot do this alone.
    In me there is darkness,
    But with you there is light;
    I am lonely, but you do not leave me;
    I am feeble in heart, but with you there is help;
    I am restless, but with you there is peace.
    In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience;
    I do not understand your ways,
    But you know the way for me…
    Restore me to liberty,
    And enable me to live now
    That I may answer before you and before me.
    Lord, whatever this day may bring,
    Your name be praised.

    Your God is Too Small

    How big is your God? Really - I believe this is on upmost importance.  Is He big enough to meet all your needs?  Big enough to do the unbelievable?  How big is your God

    In 1952, J.B. Phillips wrote a book called, “Your God Is Too Small.”  It shook the Christian world. His theory was that many believers had misconceptions about God that were no more than superimposed human characteristics. God is a Santa Clause, a stern father, an impersonal clock maker, a kill joy. His book begged the question of how big was the God we visualized as we worshiped.  He concluded that by superimposing our characteristics on God we are committing a very real form of idolatry - Creating a god in our own image.  God is so much bigger - so much beyond our comprehension - so much more powerful, loving and gracious than we can imagine.  Hey church - let's go big or go home.  We have a Big God

    Themes for the new year

    While some people make resolutions for each New Year, I select slogans – short memerable sayings to help our church focus our goals for the next year.  A few I considered for this year included:  “Look Great in 2008;” based on 2 Corinthians 10:7; “Get a Clean Slate in 08;” 1 John 1:9; and even “Lose Weight in 08,” Hebrews 10:7.

    But the one we chose was, “Good to Great in 08” from Jim Collins’ book.  A few years ago Collins did a five-year study of America’s top companies and discovered some clear principles that made these businesses go from “good to great.”  He wrote, “Good is the greatest enemy of great. Then he added, “It’s not just a business problem, it is a human problem.”

    The Bible is all about going from “good to great!”  Jesus didn’t offer a good life but a “great one!”  The writer of Hebrews didn’t speak of a God’s good salvation but His “great one!” And the apostle Paul didn’t call us to “good love but to “Great Love!”  The church is to be more than good, we are to be great!.  Yet, so often settle for a mission that is merely good and we become satisfied with mediocre faith!  Jesus always praised people who had "Great Faith."  We must go from “Good to Great in 08!”

    Are you tired of the status quo Christian life? Do you long for a spiritual breakthrough?  Are you looking to go to the next level or get a fresh infusion of faith and spiritual passion?  If you answered yes, then make this year a year to strive for Greatness and together let’s go from “good to great in ’08!”
